Two students experience a Startup Weekend in NYC

Two Minor in Entrepreneurship students took advantage of a Startup Weekend in mid-June in New York City. This opportunity was offered at a discounted rate to E Minor students through connections with an alumnus, Natalia Gonzalez Chavez, who is a Community Leader and Digital Evangelist at IBM. Natalia was a New York City Innovation Fellow during the summer of 2014, so she knows well that the E Minors students in the city are hungry for entrepreneurial exposure.

Caroline Pao was one of the students who took advantage of this opportunity. Caroline said “It was pretty much Econ 325 crammed into a weekend so I got really good practice with the startup process and got to meet some inspiring people!”  Madrid Danner-Smith, not only participated, but he and his team, SHYLO, won third place!  As Madrid Danner-Smith reflected on his experience, he said “I wasn’t so sure that linking up with strangers and trying to create a business would be a fruitful experience. However, I experienced one of the best weekends I ever had in my life! It was an intense weekend, but I learned so much and many so many valuable connections with people passionate about innovation and entrepreneurship.”

Folks from afar were able to follow along by following @nycsw on Twitter, or the #SWNYC hashtag.
