Internship Timeline

  • September-December:  Students attend the 1st Internship Program Meeting and schedule individual meetings with the Internship Director. Students utilize resources (University Career Services, internet, print media, professors, other contacts, etc.) to research internship opportunities.  Students should stay in contact with the Internship Director for support, ideas, and contacts helpful in this internship research process.
  • November: Students attend the 2nd Group Meeting- November 3rd at 6:30pm in Gardner 08. Submit a resume & interest form by 5pm Sunday, November 29th .  Students may attend the Beijing interest meeting, November 30th, 5pm, Gardner 211.
  • January-April:  Students will remain in contact with the Internship Director and pursue their top internship leads:  sending resumes, interviewing, etc.
  • December: Students should set a goal of applying to two internship positions over winter break.
  • January: Students should attend the Minor in Entrepreneurship Internship Fair (Date TBA). Students may participate in a resume review session (Date TBA).
  • Late April:  Attend required pre-departure meeting.
  • Early May:  Deadline for securing internship placement. Learning contract and waiver of release due.
  • Early May: Deadline for applying for the stipend through the Minor in Entrepreneurship. *Students can submit this application early. Approval given on a rolling basis.
  • Mid-Summer:  Submit Mid-Internship Report to Internship Director.
  • All Summer:  Meet with peers, record journal/blog entries and think about your internship portfolio.
  • Late Summer:  Complete Student Evaluation and submit to Internship Director.
  • Late August:  Enroll in ECON 328 Internships in Entrepreneurship. See 'important internship documents' for the portfolio description.

 

CEI Beijing Program Time Line –

These are last year’s dates to give you a sense of the timeline. Dates have not been confirmed for 2010.

  • January/ February: Application deadline for the CEI Beijing Program was 1/29/09. To access the application visit: www.studyabroad.unc.edu/programs.cfm?pk=1880. Students will be informed of their acceptance by early February.

          *Students can submit the application anytime prior to 1/29/09.

  •  January/ February: The Minor expects all eligible students (anyone with a 3.0 GPA or higher) to apply for the Phillips Scholarship when they submit their application for the Beijing Program. Visit the website for more information: http://studyabroad.unc.edu/phillips/index.cfm. The Minor recommends students send a draft of their essays for the Phillips Scholarship to the Internship Director. She will review the essays and return them with feedback to students within one week of submission.In addition, the Minor recommends students applying for scholarships submit letters of recommendation with their application. These letters must come from outside of the Minor.
  • January to April: Search for funding opportunities. The Internship Director will be sending more information about these opportunities. 
  • March: Deadline to apply for funding through the Minor in Entrepreneurship
  • Late April: Students will be given their internship placements in Beijing.
  • March/April: Attend pre-departure meeting
  • June, July and August: Beijing Program! Dates from 2009: June 17, 2009- August 17, 2009

Tentative program structure:

  • 2 days of orientation
  • 1 week of intensive Mandarin classes
  • 7 weeks of interning 4 days/week and class 1 day/week
  • 2 days of program wrap up
