Nourish International

Nourish International is a nonprofit organization that works with college students across the nation on issues of global poverty. The organization has always been rooted in the Carolina Family, founded in 2003 by Sindhura Citineni as the UNC student group “Hunger Lunch.” She and a committed team of students saw early successes and expanded Hunger Lunch into the Nourish International concept, winning 2nd place in the Carolina Challenge business competition for their plan. Since incorporating as a 501(c)3 non-profit in 2006, Nourish has grown into a national organization with chapters at 23 universities across the United States (for a full list, see: http://nourishinternational.org/students/index.php). To date, Nourish has sent over 80 students and $100,000 abroad to conduct sustainable development projects in 14 communities.
At Nourish headquarters in Chapel Hill, interns work closely with three full-time staff members, two of whom graduated from UNC with a Minor in Entrepreneurship, to establish new chapters across the nation, expand the organization’s fundraising efforts and donor network, and coordinate Nourish events. Interns gain experience in non-profit operation in a challenging, entrepreneurial environment, getting a chance to apply the skills they have learned in the classroom. Nourish benefits from utilizing the knowledge the students gain in the Minor in Entrepreneurship. “Our interns work hard and are able to provide invaluable insight to the organization’s business strategies,” says James Dillard, Executive Director of Nourish and UNC Class of 2007 and Minor in Entrepreneurship alumnus.
