Public Service and Social Innovation Fellowships

As of July 1, 2009, the APPLES Service-Learning Program officially became a program of the Carolina Center for Public Service. This opportunity brings together two organizations with rich histories rooted in service-learning and engagement to become more integrated in addressing Carolina’s mission of public service. Combined these organizations offer many funding opportunities for graduate and undergraduate students who wish to create their own public service or social entrepreneurial projects.

ACT OUT! Social Entrepreneur Fellowships:

(http://www.unc.edu/apples/students/fellowships/SEF/overview.html):  This one-year Fellowship is designed for aspiring social entrepreneurs who are interested in impacting the community, locally, nationally or abroad. Fellows receive enrollment in a social venture development course, up to $1,500 to help launch their idea, support from APPLES students and staff, and invaluable leadership training and personal development. Up to five Fellowships are awarded each fall.

Students are invited to design grassroots projects that they will implement during the summer. The 100 projects judged to be the most promising and feasible will be funded at $10,000 each. The program is made possible by Kathryn Wasserman Davis, an accomplished internationalist and philanthropist, who celebrated her 100th birthday in 2007 by committing $1 million for 100 Projects for Peace.
